U3A - UI/UX development & Animation

School project (2022)

The U3A (University of the Third Age) is an international organisation offering a wide range of educational and cultural programmes for retired or semi-retired seniors aged 50+. Monash University Master of Design students worked on a collaborative project for U3A UX research, development and design of UI visuals for online educational content.

UI Animation & Illustration

My main responsibility in the team was to develop the visual aspect of the platform and content, creating mood boards, illustrations and micro-animations on the UI. Based on learnings from user interviews, I developed visuals that prioritised readability and created animations that aided gamification, giving a sense of achievement by rewarding each step.

UX research & development

The brief was to design an online educational resource to help people learn how to use online pharmacies and make secure payments in an engaging way.

Multiple interviews with U3A members revealed the importance of creating a system of rewards to build confidence throughout their learning journey, as well as various issues related to the topic. The significance of a simple and highly visible UI was also noted.

Further Development

Our prototype was well received in client reviews.
Further consideration of the colour scheme and accessibility features, as well as more user testing, would have resulted in an even more sophisticated and engaging user journey. There is also room for further development in the use of micro-animation, which has been effective to create engaging experiences.
